Sam had hired her as a nanny-that was all. And from now on, a nanny was all he was going to get.

Sam thought the kids would get a kick out of visiting the animal shelter today.

True, he knew Sunny would be working there, but he wanted to take them someplace besides a park or playground. Emma and Cole loved animals. He even stopped off at the supermarket on their way over and picked up some cat and dog treats so the kids could feed them. He really didn't have any ulterior motives in mind. No preconceived purpose. He wasn't doing anything to be ashamed about. Heck, he was just doing what good fathers did for their kids nowadays!

Or at least that's what he kept telling himself.

Sam shook his head and placed his hand on the doorknob of the shelter. When he saw Sunny through the window, his breath hitched. Sunlight bounced off her straight blond hair as she stood there, smiling and cradling a black and white kitten like a baby. Sam's gut twisted, seeing her so relaxed, so happy-that same dreamy look she'd had right after he had kissed her the other day. That same look he probably had on his own face.
